Split, with its brand proposition built around instalment payments for travel, fought all the way through three rounds of judging and finished Startup of the Year at this year’s WiT Startup Pitch.
Already with Amazon Web Credits in hand after advancing to the semi-final round at the WiT Bootcamp earlier this week, Split impressed the judges during the final round with its mission to give travellers the ability to split their travel costs and manage them through instalment payments, and to present travel merchants with a new revenue stream through fees associated with the payment service, including variable service fees, late payment fees and transaction fees.
“Winning the Startup of the Year Award validates that the travel industry recognises the problem Split is trying to solve. Though we’re headquartered in Singapore, we believe that this opportunity is a global one, and our instalment payments platform can benefit both travellers and businesses across geographies,” said Dylan Tan, CEO and Co-Founder of Split.
Split won itself a one-year membership into the Phocuswright Innovation Platform. This membership offers access to a diverse network of advisors and its network of innovation partner events. Also included is one conference ticket for The Phocuswright Conference taking place November 13-15 in Los Angeles.
Two companies from this startup programme will be selected to deliver a 5-minutes of fame presentation during the conference.
“We’re thankful to WiT and AWS who have been, and continue to be, staunch supporters of startups, and we’re really excited to showcase Split to an even wider audience of travel industry experts in Los Angeles next month.
Split beat two other finalists at the Grand Finals hosted on the final day of WiT Singapore 2018: BookMeBus, building an ecosystem around transportation in South-east Asia; and Carepod, providing first class safety and care for pet air travel.
The competition started with a record number of nearly 50 entries representing a wide diversity of products and services within travel. From there, 12 were selected to make live presentations to the judges at the WiT Bootcamp earlier this week. Three top finalists were then identified.
