Founders of Royale Ergonomics, Sin Hong Joo and Sin Koon Leng, kickstarted their venture on Carousell offering reupholstery services for gaming chairs. What they didn’t anticipate was it snowballing into something bigger.
The pair of brothers started out simply wanting to repair their own gaming chair and decided to use the same grade of leather that was used for car seats. They were so pleased with the quality and finish of the reupholstery that they were eager to share it with others too.
As the enquiries rolled in on Carousell, word began to spread from satisfied customers about their unique offering and personable customer service. Soon enough, customers were urging them to start their own business, which was how Royale Ergonomics was born.
“We did not realise what a huge issue leather peeling was and in the past year and a half that we started Royale, we have already repaired about 700 to 800 chairs,” Hong Joo shares. By filling this gap in the market, they inadvertently set their business in motion.
In less than a year, Royale Ergonomics has already made quite a name for itself among the gaming community. It was the official chair of Anime Festival Asia 2019, where they provided other event sponsors with customisable, white-label chairs. It was also the partner brand at two prominent events in Singapore last year – the PVP Esports tournament and the inaugural Comic Con Singapore.
So what makes Royale the perfect gaming chair that combines both comfort and design?

Royale Ergonomics is the first and only brand in Singapore that uses automotive-grade materials to manufacture their gaming chairs. The idea was inspired by their father who is a veteran in the automotive manufacturing industry. From the type of leather to the foam they use, their materials are made following the same ISO standards for cars.
While humidity in Singapore means your leather chair peels and cracks faster, the same is not true for car leather seats. At least not for a long while. For this reason, Royale chairs last four times longer than the average gaming chair which starts to peel after the first couple of years.

It has a smoother and softer finish than genuine leather, and is considered a luxury material as it is found in cars like Bentleys and Porsches. “So when you are using one of our Napa leather chairs, you are literally sitting on the same kind of leather found in very high-end cars,” quips Hong Joo when asked about its allure.

Starting their own chair manufacturing company enabled them to work directly with suppliers and cut out the middlemen. This has helped establish a more viable business model while making it more affordable for its customers.
